04.18.12World Premiere of Inner Landscapes - for Chamber Orchestra

Just finished a week of sold out performances at the Kennedy Center with master storyteller, David Gonzalez. We’ve collaborated on a new theatrical production of a timeless classic - Sleeping Beauty, and now we’re touring it. This creative re-imagination of the tale includes myself on stage performing many of Bach’s Goldberg Variations along with my own solo piano compositions and stunning video art projected throughout the piece on a 20 ft x 20 ft screen. Very happy to have played 12 performances at the Kennedy Center and traveled with this project to Alaska, Chicago, St. Louis, etc...

WORLD PREMIERE!
This Saturday, April 21st at 8pm - Connection Works is presenting:

ChamberWORKS: Three World Premieres for Chamber Orchestra by Rob Garcia, Michel Gentile and Daniel Kelly.

Needless to say, I’m thrilled about my composition, Inner Landscapes, which breaks a lot of new ground for me:

1 - This piece is highly influenced by classical music. Members of the group call one of the movements, “the Mahler piece,” if that’s any indication.

2 - I don’t play a single note of piano!!! Rather, I’ll be conducting the orchestra(?!)

3 - It’s a multi-movement work about 50 minutes in duration.

4 - None of it sounds remotely like “jazz”.

5 - A couple of the movements are influenced by my two-year stint as the pianist for the Bang on a Can All-Stars, the dynamic post-minimalist chamber group.

6 - I feel that this piece contains some of the most beautiful music that I’ve ever written.

7 - It’s the largest group I’ve ever orchestrated for: Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute, Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet and Drums.

So.....If you’ve been wanting to hear one of my shows for a while, THIS is the one to catch!

The details are below - right before OTHER COOL THINGS that I don’t have time to get into in depth, but will let you know about soon.
